Crushed red pepper is probably the most common chile pepper used in cooking. These red pepper flakes are actually a combination of dried peppers, which is why they can vary from one restaurant to another. They have a medium heat and are most commonly seen in Italian restaurants where you can shake them onto your food. Great on pizza, spaghetti sauce, cheese dishes, marinades, mixed with oil as a dipping sauce for bread.
