Boozy Mulled Cider

A few different recipes for adding some kick to your mulled cider. Perfect for cold nights!

Ingredients

Using rum: 

  • 8 cups cider
  • 3 tablespoons Stuart’s Spices Mulling Spices
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2-3 ribs celery, thickly sliced, about 1 cup
  • 2 cups rum
  • butter
  • Stuart’s Spices Cinnamon

 

Using brandy:

  • 3 cups cider
  • 2 tablespoons Stuart’s Spices Mulling Spices
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup brandy, we recommend Paul Masson Apple Brandy as a personal favorite!

Instructions

For the rum: 

  1. Place the mulling spices in a cheesecloth bag or tea ball
  2. Put the cider in a pot, add the mulling spices and brown sugar
  3. Simmer for ten minutes, stirring occasionally
  4. Remove from heat and discard the mulling spices
  5. Add the rum
  6. Before serving, rim glasses with butter and cinnamon

 

For the brandy:

  1. Place the mulling spices in a cheesecloth bag or tea ball
  2. Combine the cider, orange juice, and brandy in a pot and cover
  3. Bring to a boil
  4. Add the mulling spices and then reduce heat immediately to a simmer
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes
  6. Serve while hot and enjoy!

Tips

When making the rum mix, use 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract instead of brown sugar for a deeper flavor!
