Old Fashioned Apple Pie

Old Fashioned Apple Pie

With a crispy crust and a wonderful mix of tart and sweet apples!

Ingredients

  • 2 10″ pie crusts
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons Stuart’s Spices Apple Pie Spice
  • Dash of salt
  • 6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples, we recommend a mix of red and green
  • 4-5 pats of butter, about 1 tablespoon each

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425° F, set crust in fridge to chill, then peel, core, and slice your apples.
  2. In a medium-size bowl, mix together sugar, flour, Apple Pie Spice, and salt, then set aside.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out one pie crust into a circle that is slightly larger than your pie plate, and transfer the crust to the plate.
  4. Add a layer of apples and then spoon some of the dry mix on top, repeating this each layer.
  5. Add the pats of butter on top with one in the middle.
  6. Roll out the top crust and lay over the filling, folding and then crimping the edges together in your preferred style.
  7. Cut vents into the top of the pie and add pie crust protectors or strips of aluminum foil around the edges so they don’t burn.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until apples feel tender when a knife is inserted through a vent.
  9. Make sure to remove protectors or foil for the last 15 minutes of baking so they get enough color.
