Saffron

Saffron has a hay-like, sweet taste. Not only is it used for its flavor, but it is also used to contribute a yellow-orange color. It can be used to flavor many rice dishes such as risotto, pilaf, or paella. It can also be used in desserts that would originally call for vanilla, such as cookies, cakes, or custards.
